We played two games and played well in both. The first game we lost 2-1 to Eastern Southland and the second gome we won 2-0 against Invercargil. I hope we do well in Timaru this weekend.<div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Here is a picture of the girls form St Joseph's. </div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UaNYTppctrQ/VeUhakSb52I/AAAAAAAAACs/dPl85_yYyLQ/s640/blogger-image--227336713.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UaNYTppctrQ/VeUhakSb52I/AAAAAAAAACs/dPl85_yYyLQ/s640/blogger-image--227336713.jpg"></a></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-62417362765668174052015-08-04T00:24:00.001-07:002015-08-04T00:24:56.543-07:00Maddison<div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Wishes to have fun in her life and go on wild adventures.</span></div><div>Dreams of living life to the fullest. </div><div>Wants to be a Customs Dog Handler or a Police Detective . </div><div>Wonders about why birds can fly? </div><div>Fears bees will sting her forever. </div><div>Afraid of people lying to her.</div><div>Likes sports and outdoor activities. </div><div>Believes that everyone has the ability to succeed .</div><div>Loves being around her friends and family. </div><div>Plans to work with her dog so we can be the best we can be. </div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-51475451259825873332015-07-23T23:44:00.001-07:002015-07-23T23:44:41.129-07:00Quote Of The Day<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3K3U9so65Mk/VbHewyg5o4I/AAAAAAAAACc/hQF75XGaV8E/s640/blogger-image--208561042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3K3U9so65Mk/VbHewyg5o4I/AAAAAAAAACc/hQF75XGaV8E/s640/blogger-image--208561042.jpg"></a></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-86368475212596620662015-06-11T12:35:00.001-07:002015-06-11T12:35:41.662-07:00Quote of the day<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d6qoSWLpam4/VXnjDEbU9_I/AAAAAAAAACE/-a97BpTmipc/s640/blogger-image--728295359.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d6qoSWLpam4/VXnjDEbU9_I/AAAAAAAAACE/-a97BpTmipc/s640/blogger-image--728295359.jpg"></a></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-56500688272493275522015-05-28T00:29:00.001-07:002015-05-28T00:29:05.135-07:00Quote of the day<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tXqmC08jZEU/VWbDrmi49iI/AAAAAAAAAB0/wU4dsTYKQJ4/s640/blogger-image-1236915051.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tXqmC08jZEU/VWbDrmi49iI/AAAAAAAAAB0/wU4dsTYKQJ4/s640/blogger-image-1236915051.jpg"></a></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-60357200892979164062015-05-25T22:20:00.001-07:002015-05-25T22:20:05.025-07:00Quote of the Day<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CnCTAHMx-WY/VWQCgmd24wI/AAAAAAAAABk/umVfn9V_2tw/s640/blogger-image--460580616.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CnCTAHMx-WY/VWQCgmd24wI/AAAAAAAAABk/umVfn9V_2tw/s640/blogger-image--460580616.jpg"></a></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-68623440242593036252015-05-24T21:55:00.001-07:002015-05-24T21:59:18.304-07:00Steampunk Essay<div>Steampunk </div><div><br></div><div>Image getting in a time machine and going to 1827, what would you see it would be some weird and come going back to 2015 and telling all your friends what saw. You would tell your friend about the steampunk they would ask what is steampunk and you would say. Is a wacky, fun, and interesting way that people express themselves through art in a unique way.’Steampunk is a mix of the ld and the new’ (Huffington post what is steampunk.) </div><div><br></div><div>Steampunk is a 1800s (the victorian era) way that people thought the future would be like without ELECTRICITY with just steam for power. ‘Steampunk is science fiction and fantasy.’ (www.gdfalksen.com) Steampunk was first created in the 1800s but people still do it today and that brings me to my key questions. What would the world look like if it was steampunk based? And what is the history of Steampunk HQ in Oamaru?</div><div> </div><div><br></div><div>If our world was steampunk based, what would the buildings be like? And what would the world be like? Would we have technology? And how would people get their news?</div><div><br></div><div>If our world was steampunk the buildings would be made of old rusted metal with not very many windows. Most of the buildings would be dark and cold inside. Our world would be different outside too. As steampunk is steam powered the world would be very polluted. Smoke would fill the air and lots of people would get sick. Plants wouldn't grow very well because of the pollution. We wouldn’t have any technology, no computers, no ipods, no phones and no internet. The way people would get news is newspapers and also a town crier, who is a person, would stand in the town centre and yell out the news. </div><div><br></div><div>Steampunk is used today in movies and as art work. One of the towns it is used in is Oamaru. Oamaru it a great town to have Steampunk in because of its Victorian buildings. Oamaru is a small town on the East Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. Oamaru has a lots of old Victorian buildings. One of them is Steampunk HQ, which is where steampunk art is displayed today.</div><div><br></div><div>This brings me to my second question of what is the history of Steampunk HQ?</div><div> Back in the 1800 Steampunk HQ was called Meeks Grain Elevator watch was a great five story building which at the time was the tallest building in New Zealand.It was started in 1881 and was finished in 1883. ‘The building was an unusual shape the front was a trapezium and back portion was rectangular.’ (Otago Daily Times Meek’s all smoke and rivets) 'It was the only five story building of its kind in the south hemisphere.' (www.steampunkoamaru.co.nz) Back then a</div><div><br></div><div>Oamaru was a thriving town because of it's crops. People thought that oamaru could be the capital of New Zealand. 'Oamaru was bigger than Los Angeles at the time ,(www.Steampunkoamaru.co.nz). But Meek Grain Elevator wasn't used for very long because in 1882 the first lamb was shipped on the SS Dunedin. This was when most crop farms in North Otago became meat farms and Meeks Grain Elevator became abandoned. Later on January 20th 1920 at 5:30am a massive fire started and the fire took the top two stories off.</div><div><br></div><div>In conclusion we now know that if our world was steampunk it would be polluted and we would be better off living in a world like the one we live in. We have also learnt about steampunk in Oamaru and how Steampunk HQ came to be. I think that steampunk is a cool way of expressing your self and I would like see steampunk in more towns across the world.</div><div><br></div><div>References</div><div>www.steampunkoamaru.co.nz</div><div>Otago Daily Times Meek’s all smoke and rivets</div><div>www.gdfalksen.com</div><div>Huffington post what is steampunk</div><div><br></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-24168132843473847212015-05-24T21:47:00.001-07:002015-05-25T22:20:16.099-07:00Quote of the Day<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dZd4EzX3G3c/VWKpbWXyimI/AAAAAAAAABU/9zYpYxgMRSU/s640/blogger-image-736290209.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dZd4EzX3G3c/VWKpbWXyimI/AAAAAAAAABU/9zYpYxgMRSU/s640/blogger-image-736290209.jpg"></a></div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6521934883888615279.post-68009056229580549792015-05-24T14:24:00.000-07:002015-05-24T14:24:30.772-07:00NetballThe St Josephs Gold play netball in the weekend against Vally. Its really fun in our new leadership roles in the school. If you want to see the role we got you can see the St Josephs new blog chick on the lick at the bottom.<br />
<br />
We also are working in our hub a lot and in our learning groups, the main thing we are focusing on is learning to learn. The year 8s each lead a learning group with three to four year 7s and 6s in it.<br />
We are also doing swimming 3 to 4 times a week which is fun but tiring. I'm looking forward to swimming sports in week 4 or 5 and the year 8 leadership retreat next week.<br />
So I would like to wish everyone a fun 2015 bye for now <br />

<span lang="EN-AU" style="font-family: "Berlin Sans FB Demi","sans-serif"; font-size: 24.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;">The
story is about a boy whose great aunt sent him a hand knitted jersey for his

much. Then he finds out that his great aunt is coming to stay with his family.
So his mum makes him wear the jersey to surprise his great aunt. He decides to
hide the jersey, several different times. However his brother tells on him.
What will happen next? To find out you will just have to read the book.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span lang="EN-AU" style="font-family: "Berlin Sans FB Demi","sans-serif"; font-size: 24.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;">I
liked this book because all the stories are different and if you don’t like a
story you can move on to the next story or quickly read it anyway. However a
disadvantage of this book is when you are reading this book and then you stop
(to go to sleep) and then pick it up the next night there is no excitement or
anticipation of what is going to happen next because they are all short stories
and you are able to finish each story before you go to sleep. But over all I
thought this book was really good because of all the different stories.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span lang="EN-AU" style="font-family: "Berlin Sans FB Demi","sans-serif"; font-size: 24.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;">I think the message of
the book was to entertain and get the reader to laugh at normal everyday Kiwi
things. It is a book written by New Zealand authors and it is teaching us the
New Zealand way of life and to always try and have fun.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Eighty nine years ago, the town of Nome in Alaska was struck with a terrible bacterial disease called Diphtheria. Sled dogs teams had to relay medicine from Nenana to Nome. <br>

In Nome the winter lasts for seven months. Nome, Alaska is on the other side of the world to New Zealand so summer in Nome is winter in New Zealand. In early November the Bering sea (which is off the coast of Nome) will be frozen over. The average high temperature for summer in Nome is seven degrees and average low temperature is three degrees. "That's really cold."<br>

In Nome the terrible disease diphtheria struck the people of Nome in 1925. The town had run out of medicine and without the medicine the people would die. So the town relayed the medicine from Neana to Nome using teams of sled dogs to save the people. Port Safety was the last leg of the race and one of the harder legs to race.<br>
<br>
A sled dog team is made up of a lead dog or dogs, swing dogs, team dogs and wheel dogs. Every dog would want to be a lead dog. One famous lead dog is called Balto. He lead the last leg of the race from Port Safety to Nome. Balto's master was named Gunnar Kaasen. He had the job to tell the dogs what to do.<br>
<br>
Balto is a hero. He is a Siberian Husky who was born in Nome 1919 and died on March the 14th 1933. When Balto died he was not buried. Unlike most dogs, Balto was stuffed and put on display in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in America.When Balto died he was fourteen. That's ninety eight in dogs years. "That's really old" Balto is named after the explorer Samuel Balto or his full name Samuel Johannesen Balto.<br>

I suppose you're wondering what diphtheria is. Well diphtheria is a highly contagious bacterial disease that effects swallowing and breathing. Diphtheria mostly hit in the 1900s to about the 1950s. Not very many people get diphtheria in our day because most people are vaccinated against it. The name diphtheria comes from the Greek language. If you get diphtheria, the doctors will know because you will have gray slime down the back of your throat.<br>
<br>
The story of Balto became very famous and in 1995 it was released as a movie. In the movie Balto is half wolf half dog and no one liked him. There was a dog named Steel and he was the lead dog and everyone thought he was amazing and him and his friends were very mean to Balto. The movie is a very good cartoon movie. In the movie Balto falls in love with a dog called Jenna. Jenna's owner Rosie got sick with diphtheria and Balto is determined to save Rosie from dying.<br>
<br>
I hope you have learnt something about the Neana to Nome sled dog race to save the people of Nome or about where the movie Balto originated from. I hope you enjoyed my report on the Neana to Nome sled dog race. The last great race on Earth to save the people of Nome, Alaska. <br>

<br />
<br />
The wind is howling loud as I lie in bed.<br />
The rain hits the roof like millions of little stones falling from the sky.<br />
The sound of thunder rolling in, like trucks driving down the road.<br />
The quick flashes of lightning remind me of those days when we<br />
used to switch the lights on and off just for fun.<br />
I snuggle down under the covers and listen to the sounds, stormy night. <br />
